For one night only: two student winds ensembles who will blow your musical spirits away!
All the way from Iowa, the Iowa State University Wind Ensemble will tour through Europe in May 2023. On the 18th of May 2023, they will share the stage with the Imperial College Wind Band from London. Come and enjoy watching these young musicians during a night of classical music in the Holy Sepulchre Church, where they will give this exclusive performance to express their musical experiences together.
The ISU Wind Ensemble features sixty of the finest student wind and percussion players on the Iowa State University campus. Its repertory includes challenging music from the sixteenth to the twenty-first centuries, from smaller chamber groups to the full ensemble. The Wind Ensemble regularly commissions new works and often features renowned guest conductors, composers, and soloists including Simon Estes, Timothy Reynish, John Corigliano, the Boston Brass, Frank Ticheli, Ray Cramer, the Dallas Brass, Lance LaDuke, John Philip Sousa IV, Johann de Meij, Julie Giroux, Leigh Howard Stevens, and Patrick Sheridan.
Under the direction of Michael Golemo since 1999, the Wind Ensemble has performed in Minneapolis’ Orchestra Hall, Chicago’s Orchestra Hall and Omaha’s Holland Center for the Performing Arts. They have performed for the Iowa Bandmasters Association convention five times, most recently in 2017. This is the eighth trip to Europe by the Wind Ensemble since 2003. In 2016 they performed for the College Band Directors National Association and National Band Association regional convention which was hosted at Iowa State.
