Competition to Design, Manufacture and Install a window to commemorate the Korean War

The Window Competition…

Aware of our specific role in relation to the Royal Fusiliers, and alongside the various commemorative services we hold, we have a range of planned and in progress projects including the development of educational films, veteran interviews, and the digitation of the Rolls of Honour. One new project that we will formerly launch on 14 October 2025 is the design, manufacture and installation of a stained glass window to commemorate the Korean War (the “RF Window Competition”). The RF Window Competition offers a wonderful and rare opportunity to enhance this historic church with stained glass, a visible sign to recognise the debt we owe to our service men and women and their families, and the City’s appreciation of the contributions veterans make. We are open-minded about the composition of applicants, whether an individual team or collaborations, but we are looking for artistic and creative talent to meet the brief, experience of delivering projects of this scale, a commitment to apprenticeship and educational opportunities, with an awareness of the particular challenges of working within a heritage site. The expected cost for the window is in the region of £100,000 plus VAT.

A Royal Fusilier’s Korean War Commemorative Window Committee (“RF Window Committee”) has been set up, a project specific sub-committee of the Holy Sepulchre’s PCC, comprised of:

  • Revd. Nick Mottershead (Chair), Major (Retd) Mick McCarthy MBE, Colonel Mike Dudding OBE, Mike Mogridge BEM (Korean War Veteran). Sebastian Fox (Chair of the RF Chapel Committee) and Jung Hyung Park (Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the UK).

  • Patron to be announced on 14 October 2025.

The competition process is currently being finalised and details will be included here as the project progresses, but as a first step the RF Window Committee set out the outline design brief, specifically, that the window design should:

1.        Commemorate the Korean War and the sacrifices made by service men and women and their families,

2.        Recognise the Royal Fusiliers and the others who served together in the Korean War, and

3.        Commemorate the contribution to business and society of those veterans who returned home
