Garden Developments

We believe that caring for God's creation is an integral part of our mission.  The Benefice of Holy Sepulchre includes: Christ Church Greyfriars and St Leonards Foster Lane, and includes some lovely green spaces, including: The Garden of Remembrance,Snow Hill Court, Christ Church Greyfriars Church Garden, Postman’s Park.

We have a number of projects starting shortly in those green spaces we are responsible for, more details below, which we will contonue to update as the work progresses. Please get in touch if you’d like to find out more. Office@HSL.Church

Garden of Remembrance

  • Restoration of the drinking fountain to working condition. This is quite a completex project in relation to not just the stone work restoration of the 1st drinking fountain in London, but also, reconnecting a water supply, developing a regime aof testing and cleaning and ongoing maintenance .

  • Developing an outside sitting area with a few tables and chairs to enjoy a little hospitality in the the outside space

Outside Crypt and Old Boiler Room

  • The outside crypt is, based on current evidence, the entrance to the newgate prison tunnel, although now blocked up. We have developed plans to use the crypt as an urban farm to grow producte such as Lion’s Mane mushroom which would then be sold to the City’s caterers.

  • We are also looking to develop some form or community garden on top of the old boiler once we have undertaken some safety assessment on the brick work.

Postman’s Park

  • We have recently completed a short condition survey of the Watts Memorial and the outcome was that we now need to undertake a 12 month monitoring exercise to assess the issues. We are currently in the planning and

  • We also are looking to get this drinkninig fountain also restored and back workingf

Christchurch Greyfriars

  • This burial ground, is quite remarkable with five queens buried in it, a number of dukes and duchesses plus many more but will limited signage explaining this very historic and interesting space. There is much happening in the area with the plans by the CoL works being undertaken and so we are currently exploring what is possible and what can be done to enhance this
