Brandenburg Choral Festival of London: Oakham School Chamber Choir

  • Holy Sepulchre London Holborn Viaduct London, EC1A 2FD United Kingdom (map)

The Brandenburg Festival welcomes back Oakham’s excellent Chamber Choir.

Oakham School Chamber Choir is the school’s top auditioned choral group of up to 30 singers drawn from its 120 voice Chapel Choir. Conducted by Director of Music, Peter Davis, many of its members were formerly cathedral choristers and/or hold music awards at the school. It is one of five choirs at Oakham School, involving around 300 pupils in weekly choral rehearsals.

The Chamber Choir regularly gives up to ten annual performances of repertoire stretching from Morley to The Beatles, and the choir has recently toured Belgium, performed major works such as Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas, as well as collaborating with professional singers and instrumentalists. The choir has regularly premièred new works written especially for Oakham’s singers, and has achieved considerable success in its occasional competition entries, most recently reaching the finals of the BBC Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year competition in April 2016. The choir has performed annually in the Brandenburg Choral Festival of London in recent years and we are delighted to see them in the Festival again this spring.
