Handel: Music for the Royal Fireworks and Water Music
Academy of Ancient Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama
Monday 4 July, 5.30pm
Free admission
Uniting the new talents of the students at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with the world-class players of the Academy of Ancient Music, this concert will feature two of Handel’s most celebrated works, the Music for the Royal Fireworks and the Water Music, both written for spectacular outdoor entertainments. This evening will present the Water Music in its recently rediscovered form as a kaleidoscopic super-suite of orchestral colour and dance movements.
Much of the music is familiar through its use in the popular media but the impact of the period brass and wind instruments combined with the beauty of the baroque strings restores to these pieces the opulence and invention of Handel’s scoring. Directed by oboist, Leo Duarte, and featuring trumpeter David Blackadder, principal players of the Academy of Ancient Music, this event is one which is sure to thrill, rouse, and delight.
